Information
This novelist and critic, an habitue of the pre-Raphaelite group of poets, gave Dante Gabriel Rossetti much practical and moral support in his latter years. He was a constant cheerful visitor to Westcliff Bungalow at Birchington where Rossetti spent the last months of his final illness and was at his death-bed on 9th April 1882. He attended Rossetti’s funeral at Birchington church and composed a quintet of sonnets, ‘A grave by the Sea ‘ to mark the occasion.
